During half time we had our very own version of "Chopped". If your not familiar with it you can check it out here. Basically they had 30 minutes to cook and present something to the judges and they had to use all the secret ingredients and everything else in the kitchen was fair game.
The girls went the day before to get the secret ingredients which were pretzel rolls, horseradish root, Italian chicken sausages and star fruit. The guy at Fred Meyer had to ask us what the horseradish root was because he didn't even know and didn't know how to ring it up.
The Teams:
1- Jason and Justin
2- Cody, Keith and Aidyn
3- Connelly and Eric
The Judges:
Me (wife of Cody)
Sadie (wife of Justin)
Kaylee (wife of Jason)
Savannah (wife of Eric)
Cadee (cousin)
Alex (niece)
Madilyn (niece)
We were just going to have the four of us, but decided we better get more judges than just the wives to make it fair.
Cody checking out the secret ingredients
Keith, Cody and Eric
It was tight quarters at times and it got pretty warm in the kitchen but it all worked out
Cody, Keith, Justin, Eric (in front of Justin), Connelly, Jason and Aidyn
The Food
(these were taken with a phone by a non-professional aka me!)
Justin and Jason
They used the starfruit and blueberries to make a yummy smoothie. They gutted the sausages, with a knife that Jason pulled out of his pocket (gross!!men!) and made a slider with a horseradish sauce for dipping.
They won ORIGINALITY for their use of the starfruit
Cody, Keith and Aidyn
They also turned their sausages into a slider, but added swiss cheese, bacon and made a chutney with the starfruit to go on top. They grated the horseradish and added just enough to the sausage to give it the perfect kick.
They won BEST TASTE and BEST PRESENTATION
Connelly and Eric
~The Bachelor's~
(Eric is technically married now, but just barely)
They cut their roll in half and toasted it. The sausage and starfruit was cut up and sauteed together with the horseradish
The over all champions were Cody, Keith and Aidyn (he's only 12 but wanted to join the men so we let him).
They won $1,000,000 each!!
(if only that was real!)
At my nephews baptism the day before Cody, Eric and Connelly all bet (yes they were betting!! To make it worse it was at the church!) my brother-in-law Torrey that the Broncos were going to beat th Seahawks so the deal was that the loser owed the winner a dollar for every point difference. Cody was sure the Broncos were going to win and that it was only going to be a 3 point spread so it was OK to bet because it was only $3.
I had no idea this conversation had even taken place until it was mentioned while we were watching the game. By the end of the game Connelly, Eric and Cody (and I since we share our account) were $35 poorer and my brother-in-law was $105 richer. I told Cody he had 35 loads of dishes to wash to earn that money back, that could've been a date night!
