I found a grasshopper while mowing
the lawn and put it in Gavin's bug jar until he got home from
kindergarten. All 3 of the kids absolutely loved it. At one point Chloe
got so excited about it that she knocked it over and the grasshopper got
out...in my kitchen! Luckily I was close by and able to catch it before
it was able to hop away and hide. Gavin thinks the grasshopper is "from
the forest" because it looks like some we found there. It's all brown
unlike the previous ones that we have found here.
On
a side note: Did you know that grasshoppers only live for about 30
days? They lay their eggs (which won't hatch for about 10 months) in the
fall and die shortly thereafter. Their babies are born in the spring
without parents....and now you know.
