Fire Pit

When we moved into the house there was an existing fire pit, but it was surrounded by big black rocks and a bunch of little ones. We moved the big ones right away so we could put chairs around it. The only problem was the pit itself was so close to the patio that no one could really sit on that side because the chair would be half on the patio and half in the rocks and the last thing we wanted was anyone tipping into the fire. We decided to move it before we put new rock around it.
 This is the "before" picture

The pit was so heavy that we couldn't lift it or even move it even with the 4 wheeler so we had to use a heavy duty chain and the truck.
We dug a new hole for it about 3 feet from where it was and then hauled off the other black cinder rock that was around it.

This was after we moved it and Cody cleared all the grass out from around it.
We bought over 1 ton of flagstone as well as the base sand to go underneath of it
We ran out and by then it was late Saturday afternoon and Wolverine was closed by then
We got some more, what we thought was enough, on Monday night and got this much farther. We joked that this is exactly why he does sheet metal and I'm a nurse because we suck at landscaping.
One last trip and we had enough with a few extra. At this point we didn't want to take any chances of not getting this done. We filled in between the rocks with the crushed granite and TA-DA!!! It's all done : )
I lovingly refer to this as the "money pit" instead of the fire pit because it ended up costing us double what we estimated. Again, it's a good thing we are not landscapers!

Just as a reminder, and to compare, this was the BEFORE picture :)

On a side note, we also got a new mailbox. It was faded, the flag was missing and it kept ending up in the neighbors yard anytime we had a wind storm! The new one looks so much better!
